Introduction to Astronomy

Formerly ASTR 1. This course introduces fundamental concepts of astronomy, including the Solar System, stars, supernovae, galaxies, black holes, and the expanding universe. Students learn how to study the cosmos and what the latest discoveries reveal about the origins and fate of the universe.

Introduction to Astronomy - Honors

Prerequisite: Qualification for the Honors Program.
Grading: letter grade or pass/no pass.
Formerly ASTR 1H. This course introduces fundamental concepts of astronomy, including the Solar System, stars, supernovae, galaxies, black holes, and the expanding universe. Students learn how to study the cosmos and what the latest discoveries reveal about the origins and fate of the universe. This is an honors course.

Introduction to Astronomy Lab
18 hours lecture, 54 hours laboratory
Corequisite: ASTR C1001 or ASTR C1001H.
Grading: letter grade or pass/no pass.
Formerly ASTR 1L. This laboratory course reinforces fundamental principles and concepts of astronomy by applying the scientific method through experiments, observations, and/or simulations.
