Basic Needs Resources

Basic Needs Program

Long Beach City College has implemented a Basic Needs program to address hunger and housing insecurity among students. The program provides increased access to food, direct-aid for emergency housing costs and referrals to homelessness referrals, access to a free LA Metro GoPass, and free clothes from the Viking Closet for LBCC students.

LBCC's goal is to make sure every LBCC students’ Basic Needs are taken care of, so students can focus on their studies and achieve their academic and career goals without having to worry about how they are going to access food, or a safe place to sleep. LBCC is dedicated to helping connect students with resources on-campus and in the community. For more information, visit the Basic Needs website at https://www.lbcc.edu/basic-needs-program or contact Basic Needs at 562-938-5045 or email at basicneeds@lbcc.edu.

Food Resources

Viking Vault

Food resources are provided to students through the Viking Vault. The Viking Vault is the LBCC food pantry and is located at the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) in E-131, and Pacific Coast Campus (PCC) in GG-Cafeteria. As an LBCC student you are able to visit the Viking Vault and get free groceries and snacks to help nourish a healthy body and mind. Students can visit the Viking Vault once per day. The Viking Vault also hosts ongoing free food events at both campuses. To learn of all of the upcoming free food events and resources, join the Basic Needs Canvas page at www.tinyurl.com/vikingvault.

Housing Resources

Emergency Housing Programs

If any student is currently unhoused, please visit us in-person at the Viking Vault, or contact our team at basicneeds@lbcc.edu or (562) 938-5045. The Basic Needs Program has a network of housing agencies that we refer currently enrolled students to, depending on each individual student’s living situation and needs. All emergency housing programs are for students that are currently, or at risk of being unhoused.

Emergency Rental & Utility Assistance

There is emergency housing financial assistance available to prevent homelessness and reduce financial burden so students can have their basic needs met and focus on achieving their academic goals. LBCC Basic Needs Program can pay direct housing costs only such as rent or utilities. Expenses that are excluded are Wifi, phone bills, medical bills, personal debt, and car payments. Supporting documents are required for all requests that show the cost owed. Students can submit a Basic Needs Request at https://www.lbcc.edu/basic-needs-program.

Transportation

LAC/PCC Campus Shuttle

Have classes on both campuses, or just need to get from one campus to the other? No problem. The Viking Voyager runs regularly between the Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) and the Pacific Coast Campus (PCC). The shuttle departs every 30 minutes from 8am-6pm, during the Fall & Spring terms only. The LAC shuttle location is Lot H, the PCC location is on Pacific Coast Highway. Students can take the shuttle for free for the first two weeks of the semester and then can ride for free after that with your ASB sticker.

LBCC Strong Beach Bus Pass Program

The LBCC Strong Beach Bus Pass Program offers all currently enrolled students the opportunity to receive a free LA Metro GoPass. The only criteria are that a student is enrolled in the current term (including for example full-time, part-time, in-person, online, credit/non-credit, and dual-enrollment students). The GoPass provides free access to LB Transit, LA Metro, and most all transit systems throughout Los Angeles County. Students can submit the LA Metro GoPass Agreement located in the Viking Portal to have the pass mailed to their home address.

For more information, please go to https://www.lbcc.edu/post/transportation and be sure to review the Strong Beach Bus Pass Program FAQs for more information about how you can receive your bus pass.
